The support provided by our volunteer force is priceless. There is no measure for the countless hours of love and dedication they shower on our pups on a daily basis. However, the harsh reality is that the work we do has a steep monetary cost. We cannot succeed in our mission without the support of both our volunteers and our donors.
Animal care comprises roughly 70% of our annual $675,000 budget, or approximately $473,000. About $140,000 of that amount is spent on medical care. From routine medical services like ensuring all animals are spayed/neutered and up-to-date with their vaccinations to more complicated treatments and consultations with specialists, we spare no expense in safeguarding the health of our rescued animals. Your monetary contributions fuel our mission in animal rescue.
In addition to the challenge of sustaining our ongoing operating expenses, our facility dates back to the 1960s and is in dire need of renovation. Architectural plans have been developed that include the following: re-roofing the entire building, replacing the HVAC system to incorporate the required ventilation and filtration to maintain indoor air quality, renovating all kennels, leveling and replacing the flooring, updating our fire alarm system to include fire sprinklers, correcting the building’s drainage system, adding housing for cats and indoor kennels.
This capital improvement project will be carried out in 6 phases so we can continue to shelter animals during the renovation. The projected cost of each phase is $150,000, for a total projected cost of $900,000. In addition to updating and replacing much of our infrastructure, our capacity to house animals will increase by approximately 32%. Monetary contributions will help support this much needed renovation.
